Since I'm a fan of lists, I naturally have one for the dollhouse too. There are still quite a few things on it, but that's the fun of it. I then look at my list and pick something I feel like making. This time, it was cakes for the party (if the girl gets the dollhouse, there'll be a party in the house, of course) and bunting to hang up.
My son and I made the flags together. He cut out the ends, and I sewed them together and threaded the string through them. I'd drawn little diamond shapes on the fabric for my son, which he then neatly cut out (with his tongue sticking out). I folded these diamond shapes in half, trimmed them a bit, and sewed them together at the top, leaving some space for the string. I'm still debating whether to attach them, but I'll leave them like this for now.
For the cupcakes, I started with the tip. I think it turned out quite nicely, but it's a bit lopsided and could have been a bit tighter. So I decided to look on Pinterest for a tutorial. I found one for making small pincushions in the shape of a cupcake. They turned out beautifully, if I do say so myself! I first sewed a piece of fabric around the cap. For the base, I used felt, which I sewed to the fabric at the bottom (folding the fabric inward and placing the felt circle against it). Then I folded the fabric inward around the cap and stuffed it with loose fiberfill. Then I took a square piece of felt, approximately 6 x 6 cm. I rounded the tips and threaded a piece of thread along the edge, then pulled it tight. If it works, pull the thread tight with one hand and stuff it with the other. Now tie a knot in it and sew the ball, opening facing up, to the fabric inside the cap. Then you can decorate it with a ribbon and small stitches, and finally, secure the cherry! I used a pretty pink bead for this... and then there was cake!
