Once upon a time, there was a prince who was looking for a princess. He couldn't find one anywhere, until one stormy night, a girl knocked on his door, seeking shelter. She said she was a princess...yes, thought the queen, we'll see! She made up the four-poster bed with twenty mattresses and twenty blankets, and hid a pea between them. A real princess is so sensitive that she doesn't sleep a wink, thought the queen. When the princess appeared at breakfast the next day, she didn't look particularly rested...I didn't sleep a wink, she said, it was as if there was a huge stone in my bed! This was proof that she was a true princess. The prince fell in love with her, and they lived happily ever after...
A four-poster bed with a princess and matching book, a lovely gift for my little girl: she loves books, dolls, blankets, and beds. Naturally, inspired by the Maileg and Tilda bed, I got to work. It was a fun project! Initially, I was going to make the bed myself from a jigsaw, but unfortunately, I didn't have the patience. My husband finished it for me and glued it together. The bed is 30 by 10 cm. I made the mattresses/blankets from various Tilda fabrics, as well as other fabrics. I cut a rectangle of 28 by 21 cm each, folded it in half lengthwise, and left a 0.5 cm seam allowance. In the middle of the long seam, I left a small opening to insert the fiberfill. I later sewed this opening closed by hand with small invisible stitches. There are some thicker and some thinner ones, so I'm not sure whether they're blankets or mattresses. The thicker ones are made from long strips of fiberfill, 10 by 57 cm, which I then folded in half at 27 cm. This makes it easier to insert them into the cover. The thinner ones are simply 10 by 27 cm. I made the blanket from small 5 by 5 cm squares, wrapped around a band, and a piece of velvet behind it. A small pillow completes the bedding. I made the pea from small pieces of green fabric.
