Maileg Dollhouses, tips and examples

How fun that you're working on a dollhouse! When I started one for our almost-two-year-old Famke, I quickly discovered the super cute Maileg products, and the big "addiction" began 😊 I was constantly thinking about it. You can find several articles on the blog about our first real dollhouse; I won't go into that in depth now, but I'm bringing it up because I think you can "make" different kinds of dollhouses with Maileg.

When Famke turned two, I started with a big house and large furniture. As she got older, I moved on to other types of dollhouses. These choices are very much child-specific, and it's difficult for someone else to decide. I think it's best for you, as a parent, to make that decision yourself. In this blog post, I'd like to show you different "types" of dollhouses with Maileg, but of course, there are other possibilities as well.

Different options

The different options may be:

  • For Maileg mice, also suitable for young children, with everything in mouse ratio (1:12, standard dollhouse ratio):

  • For mice with a more realistic decor, mouse ratio (1:12, standard dollhouse ratio):

  • For Maileg mice and rabbits/hares, also suitable for young children, all proportions mixed together:
  • For Maileg hares and rabbits, also suitable for young children, with everything in mini hare and mini rabbit proportions.

You can then go for:

  • A mix of furniture and accessories, from Maileg as well as other brands.
  • Only furniture and accessories from Maileg

As for the size of the dollhouse you can choose from:

  • A large dollhouse, Barbie-sized. The height of a floor in such a dollhouse is generally around 38 cm.
  • A standard dollhouse size. The height of a floor in such a dollhouse is generally around 23 cm.

Below I made a diagram 😊

Then we have a few more "types" of houses. These can be found in both large and standard dollhouses:

  • Open, without doors. The open side is truly the front, the back is neutral.
  • Open, without doors. The closed side can have windows or a nice print, for example.
  • With doors at the front.

Examples of furnished Maileg dollhouses

And here are the examples. Following the examples are some links to the relevant dollhouses. Not all dollhouses are still available or homemade. I've included the dimensions here. Enjoy!

Above is the Plantoys dollhouse, which I decorated for a client. The Plantoys house has doors, so it can be completely closed. You can see more photos of it on our blog. A little further down, you'll find a link to the Plantoys dollhouse.

Above, you see the Maileg dollhouse itself. Below the photo, you can find the link to the dollhouse in our shop. The dollhouse is expected to be available in our shop again in March.

The dollhouses

Below is an overview of dollhouses with links to the manufacturers' websites. On those sites, you can find where to buy the dollhouse in question. There are, of course, many more suitable dollhouses, but I've chosen to show a selection. I've focused primarily on houses that can be used as is without much modification.
