This magical Christmas cottage is still one of my favorites. I think it has a fairytale-like quality. I saw the idea last year on Mokkasin 's blog, one of my favorite Swedish bloggers. A while ago, she also published the book "Hidden Places," which I immediately ordered (and unfortunately, I can't unwrap until Christmas...). Her idea for the cottage is also explained in this book. Below, I'll briefly describe how I went about it.
Because this version has been given a Christmas decoration, it looks especially lovely in your living room during the holidays, but you can also leave out the Christmas decorations and it will still be a magical little house. Our daughter Famke especially loved turning on the lights and half-closing the curtains... so cozy 🙂

The little house is made from a thrift store table that I painted with gray chalk paint. On this table, I made a sort of chest, which lies on the table with the opening facing forward. I painted the insides white. As a big Mrs. Mighetto fan, I couldn't resist incorporating this into the house. The print on the back wall is a Mrs. Mighetto tattoo that I carefully rubbed onto the wood with a damp cloth. I covered one side with wallpaper. On the floor is a piece of a white-painted wooden bath mat from Action.
The curtains are made of a kind of soft, light blue-gray lining, into which I sewed a tunnel. I threaded a round strip through both pieces. On the inside of each side of the house, I made a hole (not all the way through) for the round strip to fit into. By slightly bending the strip, you can insert it into the house this way.

I tied ribbons around the curtains, and the magical little house is finished. I'm still debating whether or not to cut off a piece of the curtains. A year later, I still haven't done it...

Once the house is finished, it's just a matter of adding items for your child to create a fun fantasy game. Our house was home to the Maileg Tooth Fairy Mouse during Christmas, and the Nutcracker (Hema) stood guard.

Under the little house, I created a little winter scene. The trees are also Mokkassin's idea. I painted the little train in pastel shades, and I made a circle from the children's train tracks (which isn't quite round ;)). The beautiful wooden animals are from Holztiger.
