Hip round jute rug for the dollhouse tutorial

Here, as promised, is the explanation of the modern, trendy jute rug for the dollhouse. After finding suitable rope in my dad's craft room (but he can't remember where he bought it, bummer!), I started by drawing and calculating. I made circles with a compass and counted and counted and counted again... If you're okay with the size of my rug, you can skip that step. My rug has a diameter of 13 cm.

What else do you need now:
• Jute rope
• Glue (I have tacky glue from Action, really ideal!)
• Wallpaper tape or washi tape (it should not stick too much)
• Good surface (cutting mat or cutting board)
• Pair of scissors

And patience is also required here. You start with the small circles:

  • 8 very small circles of about 1.5 diameter and
  • 8 slightly larger circles of approximately 2.5 in diameter

First, place a piece of tape, adhesive side up, on your surface. Leave it there and don't use it until you've twisted the circle. So, you're now twisting the rope into a circle. This works best by leaving it on your surface and twisting it. When the circle is about 1.5 cm, place it on the tape and coat it completely with glue. Do this with all the small circles, and all the slightly larger ones with a 2.5 cm diameter. Once you've finished them, it's best (at least I did) to let them dry before starting the medium-sized ones.

Once the small pieces are dry, you can carefully remove them from the tape. Arrange them in a circle to see how you'll end up and estimate your middle circle. There shouldn't be too much space between the pieces. It's better to be a little too close together than too far apart, otherwise they won't stay together at the end. Now place longer strips of tape on the paper and twist the largest circle. Continue until you have a total of 30 "rings" in mine. Now place these on the tape and arrange the small ones around them, right side down. Place the small circles with the end of the string against the large middle circle. Press them against the large middle circle and apply glue on and between them. Gently press them all together a little more. Be careful not to get too much glue on the tape.

Once everything is completely dry, carefully remove the tape. Everything should now stay together, and your stylish jute rug is ready.

Success?
