The magical door you must have in your home

Bring some magic into your home with your very own fairy door…

Look at that little door, isn't it the cutest thing ever? Everyone knows I have a penchant for all things small, but I think the Maileg fairy door and tooth fairy are some of the most magical toys.

Due to the coronavirus, we're all currently forced to stay home. Over the past few days, I've seen people ordering gifts for each other, and last week I received such a sweet order that I found truly special. It was a fairy door with the request to include the message: "Aunt Gonul takes you to the dream world of the tooth fairy... open quickly, kiss" (with Aunt Gonul's permission).

Now I couldn't ignore it any longer: I had to make a door for Famke's room, and I finally had to write the planned blog post about the elf door. So last weekend I made an elf door and, with permission from "Aunt Gonul," posted her idea on the blog.

For this elf door, I painted the DIY kit from the shop. Last winter, Mrs. Mighetto (whom I'm also a huge fan of) posted a printable of a door with these sweet elves on her blog. Too cute not to play with!

Check out Mrs. Mighetto's blog for the printable

I tried to get the door and the mailbox in the same mood.

The story behind the elf door

The story behind the elf door could go something like this, but everyone is, of course, free to let their own imagination run wild. The story behind the ready-made elf door from the shop is this:

Let's see, is the elf home? Yes, her wand is hanging on the basket, so she's back. Now you can tell her anything you want through the door, because she can hear it all. You can also put little notes with messages for the elf in her basket. At night, she goes out and takes her wand with her. She then gets to work making sure you and all the other children can sleep soundly and dream peacefully.

A fairy door helps children process their daily impressions, fears, and dreams through a fantasy world. Some children get completely lost in it and create a real living space around the door of the little house. You can stick the door to the wall in their bedroom (for example, with some putty). The door opens, so you could paint a scene on the wall. You could also choose to stick the door closed.

Tooth fairy

For our daughter Famke, I created a combination of the door and the tooth fairy . Little sister mouse is sleeping in her crib in front of the door. The tooth fairy has finished her route and is coming home... little sister hasn't lost a tooth yet, but this way she's already in the right place.

You can think of all sorts of activities to do around the fairy door and the whole mystery of the tooth fairy. It's also especially fun to do together with your child and make things. Think of notes from the tooth fairy, a small bottle of magical fairy sand, glue the door to a suitcase, and make the suitcase into the tooth fairy's house, complete with furniture. I'll try to address this soon.

Be sure to browse the shop to see what doors I have, like this one. You can find them all at once at 'Elfenhuis' (unfortunately, not all doors are still in stock).

But also a very nice set in the department for elf doors and the DIY department

Good luck creating a magical fairy world!
