DIY Tipi without sewing

Oh, this is so awful. I'm just not good at blogging. I see I haven't posted any photos of the studio yet, even though it's been finished for ages. Well, I'll do that as soon as possible, and those who follow me on Instagram and Facebook have already seen plenty of photos. First up, the "no-sew tipi"—the one where you don't have to sew. Isn't that something?

During my thrift store visit I came across all sorts of nice things, including a box with lots of rolls of fabric.

I'd already seen the teepee made from straw strips in a larger size and added it to my dollhouse to-do list, so when I saw this box of fabric, it was the first thing that came to mind. The colors aren't quite what I usually go for, which made me even more excited.

What do you need to make your mini tipi:

  • 5 sticks of approximately 17 cm long
  • 4 sticks of approximately 7 cm long
  • rope/raffia
  • glue
  • various strips of fabric

First, place the 5 long sticks together and tie the rope or raffia around them and make a knot.

Then you can carefully take the legs apart and 'arrange' them into a tipi.

Now attach the sticks to the bottom so the teepee stays nice and stable. This was a bit fiddly at first, so I glued the sticks in place and then tied the rope around them.

Then I selected the strips I wanted to use and trimmed some of them a bit narrower. I think 1.5 cm wide strips would be best, but it also depends on the thickness of the fabric.

Now, start by twisting the fabric around the leg from the top. If your fabric isn't long enough, try stopping at the back and continuing with a new strip. At the top, you can simply wrap the strip around it, but as you get lower, braid the strip around the leg, so to speak, and then move on to the next leg.

Continue this process until you reach approximately the height where you want the tent opening to be. At that height, place a strip around your left leg and wrap it around it a few times (sorry, I didn't take a picture :(). Then braid around again in the same way and return to the right leg at the front.

My box also contained a pink ribbon, which I attached to the opening with a needle and thread...you can also glue it on.

And tadaa! Get your teepee tent ready!
