It's been a bit busy, so I just haven't gotten around to writing the blog post about dollhouse wallpaper. I also hesitated for a while because I wasn't sure how to approach it. That's why I've created a separate Pinterest page called "Wallpaper for the Modern Dollhouse." Whenever I find something I like online, on Instagram, or on Pinterest, I'll post it there. I'll also briefly explain how I often approach wallpaper, and below I'll provide a few links to websites I really enjoy.
What often happens to me is that I see wallpaper on Instagram, Pinterest, or in a magazine that I really want for my dollhouse. Or I just have something in mind that I'd like. I usually Google the wallpaper description and look at the images. For example, the wallpaper in my dollhouse living room. I searched for it as "wallpaper broken wall" and found an image on the vtwonen website. I saved the example image on the site and then inserted it as a picture in Publisher. I do a lot with Publisher. It's a standard part of your Office suite and offers so many possibilities. It takes some getting used to at first, but it works really well for me.
Then I played around with the image. You can't just enlarge it, because then the bricks would be proportionally too big. So I had to copy and paste. This involves copying a section of wallpaper and sticking it on the side or bottom. And since the wall is larger than A4 and I can't print larger at home, I also had to do some physical cutting and pasting. This is the result. I did a repeat across the width and another piece at the bottom. Because I wasn't sure yet if I'd like the living room wall like this, I glued it to a suitable piece of nice, smooth white cardboard. I then used putty to stick it onto the wall in the house in the corners. It's still like this... I really like the way it looks, so I'm keeping it. I do occasionally find the repeating of the wall a bit annoying, as it's now quite noticeable, so I think I'll redo it soon. I can remove the cardboard very easily...also easy if I decide to change the style of wallpaper later.
The big advantage of gluing it to cardboard is that you have much better access, and I find it sticks much flatter. In this case, I simply used glue stick. Be careful to spread it evenly and avoid leaving any lumps, so it will be as smooth as a whistle.
Below are some more links where you can find wallpaper that you can use to create beautiful wallpaper for your dollhouse using (physical) cutting and pasting:
• Ferm living
• Black and white
• Honeycomb/hexagon
This is the direct link to my Pinterest board "Wallpaper for the modern dollhouse." If you follow the board, you will automatically receive the wallpapers I found.
If you have smaller walls, you can still look for samples at hardware stores. And there are those scrapbook paper books with pretty patterns. You can use those too. Action has some really nice ones, often in large sizes. Xenos often has really nice wrapping paper. I haven't used it yet. It's often thin, though, so be careful when applying it.
Good luck with the wallpapers and photos are always fun!
